The Five of Cups gives loss its proper weight without making loss the whole landscape. Three cups are gone, two remain, and recovery begins only after both facts can be held without canceling each other.
Fives disrupt the prior container. In Cups, the disruption is emotional and often tied to an event that cannot be argued away. Regret may concern what happened, what was not said, or the future attached to an expectation. Specific grief is easier to carry than a vague belief that everything has been ruined.
The two standing cups should not be used to minimize the three that fell. They matter when the person is ready to turn. Remaining friends, skills, values, and options can become a bridge, but first they must be identified as real supports rather than moral instructions to move on.
Practical adviceName exactly what was lost, then turn far enough to identify the two resources that remain usable.
