Suits show the field; ranks show the stage
A suit identifies the kind of experience under discussion. Wands emphasizes initiative and directed energy; Cups emphasizes emotion and connection; Swords emphasizes thought, communication, and conflict; Pentacles emphasizes material resources, skill, work, and the body. A card can cross those boundaries, but its suit provides the first useful frame.
Ranks help compare cards across suits. Aces introduce potential, lower numbers develop a situation, middle numbers often expose adjustment or pressure, and Tens show a culmination or burden. Pages, Knights, Queens, and Kings can describe people, roles, approaches, or levels of responsibility rather than literal age or gender.
